Foundation awards $50,000 in grants
The Greene County Foundation recently award $50,144 dollars in grants to local organizations from the Foundation’s endowed funds. Grants are used by the organization to support their operations , activities or special programs. The grants are the annual earnings of the individual funds held at the Foundation for the specific organization. The Foundation’s system of endowed funds allows for contributions to be targeted for a specific purpose or organization, invested and the annual earnings returned back to the organization forever. Over time with additional contributions and earnings the funds will continue to grow and the grants increase each year.
Some of the organizations receiving grants included: Greene County Humane Society, Middle Way House, CASA, First Baptist Church of Bloomfield, Owensburg Cemetery, Habitat for Humanity, Greene Education Services, Town of Lyons, and each of the four Public Libraries. The Greene County Foundation holds assets of over 5 million dollars, and oversees 146 funds to support local organizations and scholarships. An annual competitive grant cycle will open in June and an additional $30,000 in grants will be awarded
