We are pleased to announce the organizations selected to receive the Foundation’s 2018 Community Support Grants. The winning organizations have been selected from an ever-expanding and very competitive field of applicants; we are excited to support each organization in their efforts to strengthen Greene County. These grants are made from the earnings of the unrestricted funds held at the Foundation; the funds are established by donors who wish to allow the Foundation flexibility in addressing Greene County’s most pressing needs. The following grants will be awarded:
- A. M. Risher Memorial Swimming Pool – $10,791 for pool equipment renovations; primarily supported by dollars from the Bill and Linda Haseman Fund, the Helen Hunter Community Support Fund, and the Kramer Fund
- Bloomfield Elementary School – $14,000 for the completion of a new handicapped-accessible playground; primarily supported by dollars from the Greene County Education Fund
- Bloomfield Schools NJROTC – $2,000 for attendance costs to participate in the commissioning of the USS Indiana; primarily supported by dollars from the Greene County Community Support Fund
- Eastern Greene Schools – $1,771 for Uke Can Play ukulele class program; primarily supported by dollars from the Greene County Education Fund
- Jasonville Fire Department – $14,949 for new storm siren; primarily supported by dollars from the Barkley Family Community Support Fund, the Bernard and Nancy Schantz Memorial Fund, the Frank Miller Memorial Fund, the JoEllen Kramer Legacy Fund, the Kramer Fund, the Milton and Mabel Meek Fund, the Mutual Bank Community Support Fund, the Rick & Melonie Graves Legacy Fund, the Sherman Anderson Memorial Fund, the Smithville Discretionary Fund, and the Thomas & Cynthia Roberts Legacy Fund
- Leap Ahead Center for Children and Families – $1,500 for Empowering Families parent education program; primarily supported by dollars from the Greene County Education Fund
- Linton Band Boosters – $11,000 for replacement of bandstand roof and needed supplies for the Linton Band program; primarily supported by dollars from the Greene County Education Fund
- Old Clifty Memorial Association – $3,500 for preservation of Old Clifty Church; primarily supported by dollars from the Farmers & Mechanics Community Support Fund, the Hilderbrand Family Fund, the Randall & Edna Inman Family Fund, the REMC Community Support Fund, the Sherman Anderson Memorial Fund, the Trampke Family Fund, and the Walter W. and Mary K. Burcham Fund
- Open Arms – $8,029 for renovations of Turning Point Education Center building; primarily supported by dollars from the Greene County Education Fund
- Pace Community Action Agency – $2,000 for SuperMENtors reading and music therapy program; primarily supported by dollars from the Greene County Education Fund
- Pregnancy Choices – $6,000 for expansion of sexually transmitted disease testing; primarily supported by dollars from the Milton and Mabel Meek Fund and the Wellness Fund
- Scotland Historical Society – $1,750 for restoration of Scotland Hotel; primarily supported by dollars from the Jack & Gene Inman Memorial Fund, the Robert Utterback Community Support Fund, and the Tom Jones Legacy Fund
- Shawnee Theatre – $7,500 for replacement of theatre seats; primarily supported by dollars from the Helen Hunter Community Support Fund
- United Way of Monroe County – $2,500 for Eastern Greene Schools’ Real Men Read program; primarily supported by dollars from the Greene County Education Fund
